CHANNA/CHICKPEAS KURMA CURRY





INGREDIENTS


Channa/chickpeas-----------1 cup
Oil---------------------------1 tsp
Mustard seed----------------1/4 tsp
Dried red chilly---------------1
Curry leaves------------------1 sprig
Onion------------------------1/4 cup,sliced
Ginger garlic paste------------1/2 tsp
Green chilly-------------------1,slit length wise
Tomato-----------------------1.medium size,sliced
Turmeric powder--------------1/4 tsp
Red chilly powder-------------1 tsp
Coriander powder-------------2 tsp
Garam masala powder---------1/4 tsp
Thick coconut milk-------------1/2 cup
Salt---------------------------- to taste
Cilantro/coriander leaves------- to garnish


METHOD

  1. Soak chickpeas/channa for 3hrs and pressure cook it with needed salt in it.
  2. Drain the chickpeas and keep it aside.
  3. Now in a medium heat vessel add oil and splutter mustard seeds,dried red chilly and curry leaves.
  4. Then add sliced onion and green chilly. Saute till soft.
  5. Then add ginger garlic paste and saute till the raw smell goes.
  6. Now add sliced tomatoes and saute till sift.
  7. Then add turmeric powder,red chilly powder,coriander powder and garam masala powder.Saute till the raw smell goes.Add cooked chickpeas and little water to it.Bring this to a boil.Check the seasoning.
  8. Now add thick coconut milk and switch off the flame.Do not cook too much after adding coconut milk as it would curdle.
  9. Garnish with chopped cilantro leaves.
  10. Enjoy this curry with any roti/chapathi or puri,aapam etc.
Option: You can use cow milk instead of thick coconut milk.
