Chicken-------------------------1 lb ( minced)
Ginger-------------------------- 3 inch piece
Garlic--------------------------- 6 large cloves
Green chilly------------------- 3 or to taste
Onion--------------------------- 1 medium sized ( for grinding)
Onion---------------------------1/2 of medium sized chopped finely
Garam masala powder------1/4 tsp
Red chilly powder------------2tsp
Coriander powder------------2tsp
Chicken masala-------------- 1tsp
Black pepper powder------  1tsp
Gram flour/Besan----------- 1tbsp
All purpose flour//Maida-- 2tbsp
Egg------------------------------ 1
Cashews -----------------------12
Tomato-------------------------2 medium sized
Oil------------------------------- as needed
Salt ---------------------------- as needed
Cilantro/coriander leaves -- a few


  1. Wash and drain off all water from chicken
  2. Then keep the chicken in a bowl.
  3. Grind ginger,garlic,green chilly and onion o a smooth paste. Keep it aside in a bowl.
  4. Add 3 tbsp of ground ginger,garlic ,green chilly and onion paste to chicken and mix it.
  5. Add 1tsp chicken masala, 1tsp black pepper powder,1tsp chilly powder,2tsp coriander powder,1/4 tsp garam masala powder to chicken and mix it good.
  6. Add egg, besan/gram flour and maida/all purpose flour. Mix it good.
  7. Add needed salt and mix till all ingredients are properly incorporated. Keep it for 15 minutes.
  8. Now make balls of it by wetting hand in water so that the chicken won't stick to hands.
  9. Next, medium heat oil in a pan and fry the chicken . You can deep fry or shallow fry it. 
  10. Once the chicken is fully cooked , take it out and drain off excess oil using a tissue paper.
  11. Now prepare the gravy. For this, medium heat a pan and add chopped onions to it. Cook till onions are light golden brown in color.
  12. Then add 1 tbsp of ground ginger, garlic,green chilly and onion paste.Saute till the raw smell goes.
  13. Add a tsp of red chilly powder and needed salt .
  14. Blend tomatoes and cashews to a smooth paste .
  15. Next, add the tomato and cashew paste to the pan. Cook till the tomatoes are fully done.
  16. check the seasoning and add needed water.
  17. Now add the chicken and slow cook it for few minutes.
  18. Transfer to a serving bowl and garnish with cilantro/coriander leaves.
  19. This kofta curry goes excellent with chapati, nan, rice , pulao etc.
